Are you ready to do this?
I have a process for success, here, and you need to be ready. You wouldn’t go up into the hills without water and some Kendal Mint Cake. This is the same. Well. Similar anyway. Look, I just don’t want to have to call out mountain rescue again, OK? Here’s your checklist before we set out. And if you haven’t got all of it .. get in touch anyway. You probably need me more than does that bloke with his Kagoul zipped up around a bright smile.
You have goals
It’s not so much you having goals. It’s that goals can be shared and they mean we are all aiming for the same thing. They bring clarity. So .. what are your goals for your new website?
You actually want this
This is going to take considerable effort and it will be disruptive. Not for me, I do this all day, every day. For you, for whom it’s presumably unusual. It’s not easy, either. We’re going to dig until we find your essence. What are your brand values? What Are You For? Then I’ll do some close-up magic et voila, an amazing website that’s so you you could burst.
That’s just the start of it. It’s like a tamagotchi.
Tended well, your website will be the hub of your online sales and marketing system. This could help you build something amazing. If that’s what you want. Maybe you just want a website that is good, stable, reliable and true. Goals, you see, we have to agree them.
We see eye to eye on photography
One way or another, we’ll likely need great photographs. What shall we do about that then?
There’s a clear audience
When I write, I write to Agnes. Or Dave. Trying to write to both doesn’t really work. I need clearly to see, in my imagination, who I’m writing to before I can reach them. That is, assuming I’ll be writing your copy. That’s usually what happens given that it 1) is really important, 2) mostly decides your fate with the search engines and therefore the success of the whole thing and 3) is probably something you don’t want to do. Most web developers don’t do copy.
If I’m going to fire up Agnes’ need for speed or reach Dave’s soft spot, I need to get to know them. So yeah, we’ll probably need to define your audience.
You have a budget
It’s a design constraint. The solution if you have £500 is different to if you have £3,000. A £20,000 budget gets you something else. You have to tell me your budget or I can’t design a solution to suit.
You’re ‘good’
Most people think marketing is the dark art of deceit. I don’t.
I think marketers seek out problems and then organise ourselves sustainably to solve them.
I’m here to make things better. For you, for me, and for everyone.
For me, marketing is a massive force for good in the world.
I know. People have snorted at that. (I sell them a hanky.)
